Within the programme WIR SIND HIER! we offer various formats for different target groups. You can find out more information in the respective sub-sections.
Peer trainings
With the project “WIR SIND HIER! – Educational Programme against Antigypsyism” we want to promote, among other things, awareness around antigypsyism among young people. The best way to do this is through direct contact with Roma* and Sinti* who can act as role models. For this purpose, young people from the communities are trained as peer trainers for one year. After the training phase, they then offer workshops in schools, youth centers and recreational facilities.
What exactly does the peer-to-peer approach mean? Young people are teachers and learners at the same time; there is no top-down didactics at any point. Together and on an equal footing, the participants reflect on their previous knowledge, critically review it and acquire new knowledge – what does it mean to live as a Romni or Rom in our society? What does, “our society” actually mean? And who are “we” anyway, who belongs and who doesn’t?
We can be flexible with the peer workshops we offer. They can take place on-site or online. Feel free to contact us for more information! Your contact person is Merle Weißbach. Together we will find a format that suits your needs.
Trainings for multipliers
Are you are a teacher? a student teacher? a multiplier?, a social worker? or simply interested in further training in the field of antigypsyism? Are you looking for an offer that conveys basic knowledge on the topic and enables sensitisation and reflection? WE ARE HERE!
We see an urgent need to catch up: At schools in Germany, the topics of antigypsyism, as well as the history and present of Roma* and Sinti* are hardly dealt with. This is largely due to the fact that neither in the training of teachers, nor in textbooks enough information can be found on these topics. The term antigypsyism appears in only 7 of the 103 textbooks that mention Sinti* and Roma* at all, the study “Textbooks and Antigypsyism” by the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research found in 2020. With regard to the curricula, which significantly influences the contents of textbooks, the situation looks even more dramatic: Antigypsyism is not explicitly mentioned as a teaching topic in any of the 197 curricula from 16 German states that were examined.
Thanks to our expert knowledge and years of experience in the field of antigypsyism-critical educational work, we can change this situation! We offer trainings that are tailored to your interests and needs. Please contact us directly: your contact person is Merle Weißbach.
